Free2Fly Opens Retail Shop on Broad Street, Downtown Cleveland
Project Free2Fly, local non-profit, relocated and expanded their office, workspace and has now opened a new retail store for local shoppers. Located at 264 Broad Street, this nonprofit brings a new shopping experience to the downtown area with their unique products. Products for sale include Free2Fly’s own handmade line of beautiful handbags and accessories, as well as other products from local small businesses.
Free2Fly, founded by Hailey Johnston, was created in April, 2014, with the mission to serve women in the community. Hailey’s vision was to start a creative business that would help women who are unemployed but desire to rise above their current circumstances.
“There are many women who have dreams and goals for their lives, but do not believe they can achieve them or they do not know how to start pursuing those dreams,” states Hailey Johnston. “Whether transitioning out of homelessness, facing an unwed crisis pregnancy, or coming out of a rehabilitation situation, we believe women can find purpose and value within our community.”
Free2Fly at 264 Broad Street is a retail space where quality handmade products are sold, while the sewing workspace is located next door at 266 Broad Street. On site, the woman of the program are taught the skill of sewing.
“Teaching them how to sew is a catalyst for increased self-esteem. It also enables them to realize that they can learn a new skill and experience success.” says Hailey Johnston.
Creative Director & Designer, Joanna Ivey joined the Free2Fly organization in 2015 contributing her unique designs and sewing expertise. She along with several valuable volunteers teach the ladies in the program to sew. As the ladies progress in their sewing skills, they create the handmade products that are offered in the retail shop. Profits from the sale of the products are given back to these women.
Project Free2Fly has successfully been selling their products online, but now offers the Cleveland community the opportunity to further support this non profit organization by shopping local.
