"Life is Sew Good"
This summer we were ready for some fun, so we decided to do the biggest Girl's Sewing Camp yet! We hosted 88 girls, over 5 weeks. We were thankful to have renovated and updated our side space where we held camp last year, to allow for more girls to attend this year! We loved welcoming back faces from year's past and introducing ourselves to new girls who were attending for the first time.
The first 4 weeks were designated for sewers to learn or re-learn their machines and the basics of sewing and the 5th and final week was for intermediate/advanced sewers. The intermediate/advanced sewers worked on the same projects, but with a slightly more difficult design.
Throughout the week the girls worked on and completed 3 projects: a pencil skirt, crossbody bag, and a sunglasses pouch. It was fun to watch them complete each project and we enjoyed seeing them show off their completed products to their family and friends on the final day of camp at the showcase.
This camp is one of our yearly fundraisers. It not only is meant to teach the skill of sewing to young girls in our community, but through doing so, empower them to believe in themselves and encourage them to try new things. We want every girl in our community to believe in themselves and their abilities and we look forward to continue to do so through more events in the future.
We could not have made it through these 5 weeks without our amazing volunteers and staff and are so thankful to them for volunteering their time to help us support, nurture and empower young girls in our community.
We often have parents and community members ask if we can offer more classes and events throughout the school year and we are excited to announce a few opportunities happening throughout the year!
